Two years ago I bought a pair of 8GB DDR3-1600 sticks for $86. Now, they’re $155
It’s not like DDR4 and DDR5 came out, and now I’m looking for stuff that’s no longer manufactured. What happened?
(Hard drive prices are still higher than when I bought my last pair of 2tb drives, but there was a natural disaster that wiped out most of the factories. That I understand. This baffles me.)
Quite simply, PC performance had plateaued. People don’t need to upgrade as often, and when they do, nobody buys desktops anymore, except for geeks wanting to build stuff, or for gaming platforms. Prices are responding.
Meanwhile, have you looked at the kind of laptop or tablet that a mere $300 can buy these days?
Well I am wanting to run Server 2012 R2 with the Azure Pack, so I need some more ram.
This is what happens when you print money, it’s worth less over seas and you pay more for things that come from there….
I’m not sure that’s the case here. If it were, wouldn’t the prices of other goods from overseas cost twice as much as they did two years ago? Walmart would be out of business if that were the case.
