The two suggestions I’ve seen regarding gas venting around the charging handle are to put silicone on the charging handle where it mates with the upper, and to install a gas vent in place of the forward assist.

Personally, I’d try the silicone trick, as well as newer suppressor designs that minimize back pressure, before I removed a functional piece of my upper.

Is that an actual suppressor or just a fancy flash hider? Because if it’s the former, that’s likely the cause of the gas in your face.

It’s a real can. The gasbuster is supposed to mitigate that, and it works really well in semi.
