blogger shoot update

So… Wizard and I found a place for the shoot.  It’s actually on the north side of Land Between the Lakes (which is actually Ky, not Tn) about 2 hours away from Nashville.

So… now that we have the place, and the time (late June), we need to know who’s interested.  If you haven’t commented to the previous entry, please comment to this one so we can get a head count and start inviting folks, and I can start talking to hotels.  Sadly, we can’t do an open invite, but we want to get as many folks as we can.

This is practically in my backyard. Erin, if you show up, my wife will want to do crafting stuffs with you, I promise!

What kind of crafting stuffs? I’m not especially skilled at the feminine arts. (Can’t sew worth a damn and the last two times I tried to cook, the fire alarm sounded and firefighters showed up.)

Making pony coasters. Or bead works.

I want to go — BADLY — but do not know how I can afford it. Advice will be appreciated.

Oooooh. I like the location Land Between the Lakes is mighty pretty.

And my CCW is good in both KY and TN.

One can count me among the interested.

A question. How big is the place where the shoot is being held? And how private is it noise wise Because I’ve got a black powder mortar. And even when firing blanks it makes itself known.

Noise would not be a problem. Distance would.

That’s the reason I normally shoot blanks with it (clump of sod).

Still distance and safety are a factor. How long is the range?

What is the minimum safe distance that you would need to shoot it? What is the maximum distance given your usual payload?

The distance from the shoot house to the berm is only 60 yards. So if you want to really reach out and touch something you may be disappointed. Great for everything else though.

As far as your mortar, we do have some flexibility. We can move vehicles and folks back into the main yard area when you are ready to shoot it. We can get you a bit short of 200 yards that way. Would that be enough?

That could be enough. Not for any projectiles of course. But could be good for blank shots.

    I’m interested!

I am definitely interested. The only issue is, as far as I know, leaving the state of TN with class 3 stuff, so it looks like I am down to pistols.

Then there is the whole making sure Mrs. DWH, nearing her 3rd trimester at that point, will be OK to go OR OK to let me go. That dapends on her and the baby’s health at that point.

You should have plenty of time between now and end of June to submit a 5320.20 form to bring along your NFA items. Suppressors do not need to be listed, but any other NFA item does. I can get you an address to put on the form if you want to go that route.

As someone interested in attending who will also be bringing an item that has an “short” barrel, please shoot me an email ( “linoge (at) wallsofthecity (dot) net” ) with exact dates and address such that I can beg permission from our overlords to take said device across state lines.
