Kilted to kick cancer!

Wait… I can claim that wearing a kilt is for a good cause?  Works for me!

I’m not going to subject you guys to my ugly mug everyday like JayG is planning, but I may manage one a week.  Of course, most of the pics are going to be from Dragoncon this past weekend.

This is my oldest kilt.  After 3 years of Naienko pestering me, I finally broke in and bought a Survival Kilt from Utilikilts.  Yeah, they’re expensive, but after 5 years of fairly heavy use, it’s still in good shape.  I’ve since bought 2 more kilts from them (that you’ll see later), and I was one of the folks that ordered the 5.11 April Fools Day tactical kilts (which you guys might see if they arrive in time).

On to the serious stuff.  I do have a buddy that is a survivor of testicular cancer.  I also lost two grandparents due to other forms of cancer.  Dealing with any form of cancer is not pretty, and is painful for not just the patient, but their loved ones as well.  Any ability to catch it early and possibly stop it before it becomes too serious is a truly great thing.  While I would love to see my donations reach or exceed the other folks participating, I’m not delusional.  I’m doing this purely to help a good cause.

    And this is why I am thankful a mass producer got in on the kilt game, no matter how briefly – even with their 20% off, I still cannot swing an AltKilt, and they are on the cheaper end of the spectrum.

    Oh well. Next year.

      I definitely understand the expense part. Although, from what I’ve seen, Utilikilts and AltKilt are actually both on the high end of the price range for that style of kilt. I’ve bought Utilikilts in the past mostly because that’s what I’ve been able to get my hands on. I just have an issue with ordering clothes without either seeing it in person, or knowing folks that have.

      If I was in the market for another kilt right now, and didn’t want something specific, I’d look closely at UTKilts. Their UT Wild looks very similar to the Utilikilts Survival Kilt that I enjoy at $80 instead of $325. Of course, the real question is how well is it made, which can only be answered by getting one. I say you should buy one and tell me if I should be upset about buying a new survival Utilikilt or not.

      There’s also the whole priorities thing. I bought a new kilt, you just dropped the cash to build a new tricked out .22 rifle. I don’t think either of us is suffering because of these decisions. 🙂

        Whoops, yup, that was just me misremembering numbers – Alt.Kilts go down to $200, Utilikilts go down to $150. Which is still damned expensive for wearing a curtain.

        And, honestly, I had not done a whole lot of research on kilts, having first stumbled across Utilikilts, convinced myself that there was no way I was going to rationalize that, and moved on – even their base model is more than I have ever spent on a single article of clothing, including, if you care to, a full-up suit or even a watch. So I guess I should not be surprised that there are cheaper ones out there after all; my mistake.

        For the time being, I think I am going to stick with the two Tactical Kilts I preordered, and see if I actually have any desire to wear them at all; if so, we might start doing comparison shopping ;).
