  • Deliberations begin in a couple of hours

In the Zimmerman vs The Left trial.

There’s a one hour recess, then jury instructions, then deliberations begin for a jury that hasn’t seen their families in two weeks. Late on a Friday is when they’ll get the case, and I’ve heard that often juries just want to go home in circumstances such as these.

As I said in GBC, I can’t see how deliberations will be anything other than one camp wanting to follow the law, and the other wanting to avoid rioting. No one who has looked at the facts of this case can reasonably conclude that it was anything other than self-defense.

But if things were reasonable, the original outcome of the investigation–that George Zimmerman was attacked and responded with an appropriate level of force–would have been where it stopped.

  • Aaaaand we’re back

    You know what’s awesome?

When your web host turns off your database completely, then sends you an email asking you to troubleshoot a problem that requires you getting into the database.

Better still is when, after complaining for 24 hours that you can’t get into the database to troubleshoot, you get a snarky “oh, it was obviously this, so I fixed it for you” reply. How would I know something that was obvious if I can’t see it at all?

If I hadn’t prepaid for the rest of the year less than a week ago, I’d be switching hosts right now.

    Grrrr…….

  • One more thing on Illinois Carry…

I’m going to go ahead and call this:

If the murder rate in Chicago goes up, it will be blamed on concealed carry and preemption*.

If the murder rate in Chicago goes down, it will be attributed to Rahm Emmanuel’s supreme leadership.

*That’s right, Chicago’s handgun ban, AWB, and several other laws are now kaput

  • This brought a tear to my eye…

Illinois State Police FAQ on Concealed Carry

And it looks like out of state residents can, theoretically, get Illinois Carry Permits.

    Theoretically.

Out of state residents must obtain an Illinois Concealed Carry License to lawfully carry a concealed firearm in Illinois. In order for out of state residents to be eligible for an Illinois license, their state’s concealed carry license laws must be substantially similar to those of Illinois. The Illinois State Police will establish rules to identify the elements necessary to meet the substantially similar requirement.

I suspect what the ISP will do is establish rules that are so strict reciprocity will be very, very limited. From what I’m reading, they have 180 days to come up with the rules. Then they’ll start accepting applications.

Goal for 2014: Carry in Chicago, legally.

  • So… this apparently exists…

Even though Erin has tried her hardest, I’m just not going to be a Bronie, but I do remember there being a couple at the Bidet Shoot.

I wonder if they’re aware that there are conventions specific to this particular fandom.  Apparently there’s one in my neck of the woods this weekend.

If any of them decide to show up, give me a call and I’ll meet you for lunch or something.

    Serial Number intentionally blacked out

That’s the full auto AR from yesterday’s video.

  • Full-Auto Lower + My Upper = Awesomeness

At the Bidet Shoot, we decided to take the upper from my 12-pound AR and put it on Mr. Cook’s Full-Auto AR Lower.

The biggest thing I noticed is that the PRI Gas Buster didn’t seem like it could keep up with the rate of fire. You can actually see me close my eyes during one of the bursts because the gas was getting to me. It works great for semi-auto, so I’d buy it again.

  • Scorecards: “To Coup or Not To Coup” Edition

Tens of thousands of people protest in the street against Egyptian President Mubarak, leading to the Military taking charge: “The people have spoken!”

Tens of millions of people protest in the street against Egyptian President Morsi, leading to the Military taking charge: “It’s a coup!!!”

If you’re wondering why our media had such different reactions to such remarkably similar circumstances, wonder no more.
