{"id":4793,"date":"2019-03-21T22:18:47","date_gmt":"2019-03-22T03:18:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/gunscarstech.com\/?p=4793"},"modified":"2019-03-21T22:18:47","modified_gmt":"2019-03-22T03:18:47","slug":"with-friends-like-this","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gunscarstech.com\/?p=4793","title":{"rendered":"With Friends Like This&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>For those that don&#8217;t know, when it comes to pro-gun rights groups in the state of Tennessee, you pretty much have the Tennessee Firearms Association and&#8230; the Tennessee Firearms Association.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recently, John Harris, the man who has lead the TFA for a long, long time posted this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"456\" height=\"366\" src=\"https:\/\/gunscarstech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/anti-2nd_John_Harris.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4794\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gunscarstech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/anti-2nd_John_Harris.jpg 456w, https:\/\/gunscarstech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/anti-2nd_John_Harris-300x241.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 456px) 100vw, 456px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Just in case you&#8217;ve somehow stumbled on to this blog without knowing what the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/McDonald_v._City_of_Chicago\">McDonald v Chicago<\/a> case was about, welcome! and I hope I manage to enlighten and entertain!  The case dealt with whether or not it was constitutional for the city of Chicago to straight up ban the ownership (not just carry of) handguns in its city limits.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The short of it is that the court decided that the 14th amendment means that the states are under the same constitutional restrictions that the Federal government is, and that includes the 2nd amendment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Being a little alarmed that the head of my states &#8220;only no-compromise gun organization&#8221; would refer to &#8220;the wrongly decided SCOTUS McDonald decision,&#8221; I ask him for clarification.  This was his answer:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"371\" height=\"502\" src=\"https:\/\/gunscarstech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/anti-2nd_John_Harris_2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4795\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gunscarstech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/anti-2nd_John_Harris_2.jpg 371w, https:\/\/gunscarstech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/anti-2nd_John_Harris_2-222x300.jpg 222w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 371px) 100vw, 371px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In short, it is his belief that the 14th amendment&#8217;s due process clause does not mean that the constitution applies to the states as well as federal government.  Never mind that, besides a handful of court cases shortly after the amendment was passed, the courts has regularly held it to mean just that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Which means that, yes, the head of my local state level pro-gun rights org does not believe that the 2nd amendment applies to state level legislation.  I&#8217;m guessing, by the same token, he doesn&#8217;t believe that state or city governments are restricted by any of the other amendments in the Bill of Rights&#8230; or the rest of the constitution, for that matter.  Sorry, beyond &#8220;don&#8217;t own slaves.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So&#8230; in case you were wondering, I know that my friend <a href=\"http:\/\/www.weerdworld.com\/\">Weer&#8217;d Beard<\/a> is a fan of tell you to join multiple national level gun rights groups *and especially* your state level ones, but&#8230; I&#8217;m not going to be opening my check book for the TFA anytime soon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By the way, Mr Harris&#8217; day job?
