I’m sure everyone remembers the big fight that Tennessee had over allowing folks to keep guns in their cars even if the company bans firearms on their property.  The final bill basically said “yes, you can, as long as you’re a permit holder and no one sees you do it… oh, and you can still totally get fired for it.”

Well, the state AG has post a bit of a FAQ on how he interprets this new law.  Apparently security cameras spotting you will also cause you to be in violation.

So… it’s legal as long as no one actually catches you doing it… ever, and if the lot has a security camera?  Yeah… that basically is a no-go.  In my book, that means the action isn’t legal.  Looks like it was just an attempt for the state Republican party to be able to say “see? we did something for you gun nuts.  Now shut up and sit down.”

By the way, this reminds me a lot of my feelings towards “concealed carry only,” and why I advocate that we need open carry everywhere.

I wonder if the Mt. Juliet K9 officers leave their dogs in their cars with the engine running. If they do, does this “smash the window to save a child or pet, even if the engine is running with the air on” advice still apply?

I was a construction worker for a little bit after high school. I coveted the Dewalt 18v drill my employer issued me. Certain people may have a better formed opinion than me, seeing as my construction experience is limited to 8 months as a helper 15 years ago, but I’ve never heard anyone complain that they got a Dewalt for Christmas.

January 1997: Death of the Internet!

Went to Las Vegas this week for work. First time. This is the reason for no blog.

Someone told me “You’re going to be shocked when you step off the plane and there are slot machines right there.” Even after hearing that, I was, in fact, shocked when I stepped off the plane and there were slot machines right there.

Being two time zones over is hazardous. On the one hand, being wide awake at 4am is kinda cool. On the other hand, 8pm being way past your bed time is a bummer.

Bad thing about being up at 4am was that the fitness center at the hotel didn’t open until 6. I found that odd, since Vegas is supposed to be 24/7 all the time. The casino in the hotel didn’t close, I’ll note. The good news is Vegas is in Nevada, which is mostly flat with some mountains thrown in for scenery, so I just did my morning runs outside.

“The Strip” is gigantic. (We stayed at a resort that isn’t on the strip, so I didn’t get the full Vegas experience.)

The “Pawn Stars” shop is tiny. Like, I think I’ve been to Subway restaurants larger than that place. Not only that, but only about 1/3 of the whole place was pawn related. The rest was merchandising for the show.

Everything is beige.

There are a TON of helicopters buzzing around town, all the time.

Why would your hotel and convention center have wifi in the hotel, but not in the convention center?

My old Nexus One that I’ve been using as a podcast player for the last year seems to be on it’s last legs.

The fountains at The Bellagio are indeed impressive.
