I have this in my car, which works pretty well for it’s intended purpose. I’m starting to look for something for my nightstand because lilwizard is starting to “pull up” and can almost reach it.
I think I want something large enough for two pistols, with the ability to mount it to my nightstand with bolts or screws. I’d much prefer a combination or key lock to those electronic ones. Maybe this one?
I dunno. Who’s got some good recommendations?
If all you’re looking for is little-fingers protection, the Stack-On you linked is a good bet. It should have holes in the bottom to allow you to lag-screw it down. Like you, I’m not a fan of electronic or combo safes for bedside; I want to be able to turn a key and have it open, not try to remember the key pattern for Eine Klein Nachtmusik.
Don’t count on most of those small lockboxes to be truly secure: with the right three year old, it doesn’t take much instruction for said toddler to be able to easily, quickly, and repeatably defeat most of them.

It’s a combination setup, but I like the VLine TopDraw. http://daddybearsden.com/2011/05/15/product-review-v-line-top-draw-handgun-case/
Got this one for Christmas: http://www.amazon.com/Stack-On-PDS-500-Drawer-Safe-Electronic/dp/B002KEIU4W
It fits well in my nightstand drawer and has holes so that you can bolt or screw it down. I use the key pad but it can also be opened with a key. I mainly use it to keep my carry pieces secure from the kids. I realize that this is not a super secure option but only a deterrent to easy access.
I have a double Gunvault like the one pictured in the blog post. I change the batteries on New Year’s day and I’ve not had problems. I bolted mine to the shelf in the closet, and the shelf is bolted to the wall.

Maybe watch this for a choice? For Kalifornians.
