I might make this a feature. Not sure. In my research over the years I have come across some mighty stupid laws.
I came across this one when researching leash laws. It’s a Class C Misdemeanor.
No person, unless totally or partially deaf, shall carry, hold, or use on any street, highway, or in any other public place, a leash blaze orange in color on any dog accompanying that person.
This one is stupid mostly because it’s completely unknown to regular people. Heck, my wife works with the deaf and didn’t know about this. This leash is probably illegal, and I’m given to understand that there are a lot of people in this state who are UT fans.
Really, what’s the point here? To alert drivers that there might be a hearing dog on the sidewalk? And why would that be useful information? It’s not like you’d have time to process “oh, that leash is blaze orange” before actually passing the deaf owner.
I stumbled across a couple of odd ones in Virginia, a couple of months ago. Be careful carrying Granny’s cane!
Clearly the State is not content with just creating different classes of people with their laws, but feel the need to create different classes of dogs as well.
While I am not a UT fan, maybe I have very poor eyesight (without needing a different class of dog) and want a bright orange leash so I can locate it more easily. However the state has chosen to descriminate against the color of the leash which I personally believe to be racist against dogs who wear orange.
