No big deal, just a Special Operations Surveillance Aircraft circling Richmond

By | January 16, 2020

Four days from now, on Monday, January 20th, 2020, the Virginia Citizens’ Defense League is holding their annual Lobby Day at the Virginia State Capitol in Richmond, VA.

There has been a lot of…contentiousness this year. Among other things, the Governor has declared a state of emergency and (probably unlawfully) declared the State Capitol grounds a gun-free zone.

I say that, because of this: At this hour, there is a USAF U-28A aircraft circling the Capitol.

What is a U-28A? Well, the Air Force says:

The U-28A is a modified, single-engine Pilatus PC-12 aircraft and is part of the Air Force Special Operations Command manned, airborne intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance fleet.  Operational squadrons include the 319th, 34th and 318th Special Operations Squadrons, and the 5th and 19th SOS conduct the airframe’s formal training.

It circled that area for about two hours before flying east-southeast towards Yorktown Naval Weapons Station.

The jagged lines are due to the aircraft signals being picked up by different receivers

Once the altitude dropped below 2000FT MSL, I lost it.

Probable airstrip landing location

Honestly, I had never heard of Camp Peary, but because I love you guys I wanted to look up what was there.

You have got to be kidding me.

No.

I…..Just no…

Camp Peary is an approximately 9,000 acre U.S. military reservation in York County near Williamsburg, Virginia. Officially referred to as an Armed Forces Experimental Training Activity (AFETA) under the authority of the Department of Defense, Camp Peary hosts a covert CIAtraining facility known as “The Farm“, which is used to train officers of the CIA’s Directorate of Operations, as well as those of the DIA‘s Defense Clandestine Service,[1] among other intelligence entities.

Why? Why must you make me think like a conspiracy theorist?

So, good luck, fellow citizens! Your participation will be recorded in your permanent record!

UPDATE 1/18/2019
The aircraft appears to have left the area the day after I watched it circle Richmond. I did not see it leave, but it was tracked by RadarBox24 leaving the area around noon local time:

No photo description available.

They have been doing this for years to train special forces guys on crowd control. That’s not a posting I’d be worried about.

That area is for Army intelligence training. No conspiracy theories needed. If you want a conspiracy, why are they preparing for an assault when it is supposed to be a peaceful gathering. ??

Hello, I am the guy who reached out to Sean. Because the rest of your domain comes up with errors. My Son is a conspiracy theorist and sends me things all the time. I do my best to confirm, debunk, and offer my opinion to him. He sent me the link to this article. Any info you can provide I can pass on to him would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Isn’t it weird that my site is not working properly today, even though it’s been stable for years? My header image and sidebars are completely whacked now, and I’m getting http 500 errors on other sites on this server.

That info was screenshot live from https://global.adsbexchange.com/VirtualRadar/desktop.html
I haven’t had time to check today to see if the flight is on radarbox, flightaware, etc. They switched their call sign to DRAGN55 right before they landed.

What info are you looking for? That the flight happened? That the aircraft is a U-28A? That the U-28A is a special operations surveillance aircraft?

I’m still under a seven page NDA with respect to a similar program. I can say that wizardpc is correct.

I would guess that’s actually just a training op, using the incident as a convenient subject. It’s a training base, observing such things is what they train for. Here’s one conveniently at hand. They also circle historical re-enactments, major ball games, and storm damage.

This aircraft came from either Hurlburt field or Eglin as it would be a part of the 319th or 34th SOS they are the units in CONUS that use the Pilatus U28A
This would also jive with it possibly being TDY to Camp Peary (airstrip gps:37.312045, -76.638421) and then departing on the SW flight path shown in the article.

Richmond has a lot of southern access to DC. I have heard there are concerns Dims could affect chicanery re the Impeachment Trial. Having troops ready and Richmond blocking armed Patriots from access to DC could be playing into this martial law move in VA.

Camp Peary is very well known to those of us who live in or around the area. If you get off I-64 and go the wrong way, they turn you around…but it is nothing suspicious. It’s a military base. Va. has many of them.

God bless us all and Godspeed, my countrymen and women in Virginia today. May peace overrule any aggression in Richmond, and may every LE and enlisted man or woman remember their oaths to our Constitution today. God help us.
