Signs that you’re getting old

By | August 20, 2012

It’s not when you’re sore the next day.  It’s when it doesn’t kick in until 2 days later.

I tested (and received) my second degree black belt in TKD on Saturday.  I managed to remember all my forms (all 18 of them), survived sparring, and broke many boards without difficulty (once it was determined that I had brought the wrong kind of boards).

Today, I’m still tired, sore, and a bit bruised, but I did enjoy it and I’m a better person for going through it.

I bought the “select pine” from Lowes. I knew I needed to get pine (specifically, yellow pine), and that was all they had. Turned out to obviously not be yellow pine. The board holders could tell the difference by the weight of the the boards, and I could definitely tell a difference. A good solid sidekick wouldn’t budge 3 boards of what I brought, but would turn the correct boards into splinters.

Of course, now my instructor has a nice pile of “demon boards” for when she decides to be evil.
