    Heh.
    As a multiple puppy raiser…..

Look for a battle of maneuver.
He’ll figure out how to get in. You’ll try something else. He’ll figure out how to get in that, you’ll figure out something else. He’ll figure out to get in….

Until finally you have a steel, electrified, lockable garbage can with a moat.

A friend of mine used mouse traps around the edge of the can, although I don’t remember how she attached them. The dogs learned quickly that the trash HURT.

I just keep mine under the sink, and I installed child-proof latches on the cabinet doors – which I needed to do anyway, since both cats like to hide in the cabinets anyway, and the older one could open them easily (I don’t think the kitten is big enough to do that – yet).

It was tolerable with just Midnight (the older cat). I just had to put food trash outside. But D’Artagnan (the new kitten) also sees the trash as a source of toys – all the delightfully crinkly wrappers, and paper towels, and so forth. The latches went on after the third time I came home to the trash can lying in the floor with its contents shredded and spread across the kitchen – and I only waited that long because I was being lazy.
